Clermont Mine seeks to be more than just a major source of local employment and economic growth, rather to work in partnership with the local community. Through its community relations programme, Rio Tinto Coal Australia is working to help provide positive long term outcomes for the Clermont region.
The Clermont Community ConsultativeCommittee (CCC) includes members of the Clermont community and representatives from Rio Tinto Coal Australia. The group meets quarterly to discuss Clermont Mine and Blair Athol Mine. CCC documents, including meeting minutes, key points from meetings and the CCC Charter, can be found in the Clermont Mine library.
The Clermont Community Reference Group (CRG) was established as part of the Clermont Mine Alternate Water Supply Agreement (AWSA) between Rio Tinto Coal Australia and nearby landowners. The group meets quarterly to discuss environmental issues relating to the Clermont Mine, and any other concerns the group may have about the mine. The CRG charter and minutes from previous meetings can be found in the Clermont Mine library.
Other recent examples of our consultation and involvement in the community include:
- Clermont Community Development Fund
- Clermont Aboriginal Community Development Fund
- Participation in the Preferred Future project, led by Belyando Shire Council
- Newsletters and publications
- Feedback through Rio Tinto Coal Australia's sustainable development report.
