Partnerships

Working in partnership with local groups is essential to building relationships with our local communities. We work with a range of organisations to help implement initiatives that provide sustainable outcomes for the local communities impacted by our operations.

Our approach

Currently Rio Tinto Coal Australia has a range of active partnerships which help address the social, environmental and economic challenges facing the communities in which we operate. They include:

  • Community development funds at Blair Athol, Hail Creek and Kestrel Mines
  • Donations and sponsorships at each operation support local community initiatives and projects
  • Corporate donations and sponsorship programmes supporting a range of organisations including the Newcastle Knights, Westpac Rescue Helicopter service, Opera Queensland's Young Artist programme, The University of Queensland, Queensland Opti-Minds challenge and Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy.
