Clermont Mine

The Clermont Mine is Rio Tinto Coal Australia's newest coal mine.

Rio Tinto Coal Australia's newest operation, Clermont Mine, is located 12 km north west of  the township of Clermont in central Queensland. Construction of the mine and associated infrastructure started in 2007, and the first shipment of coal was delivered in April 2010. When the mine reaches full capacity (expected in 2013)  it will produce up to 12.2 million tonnes of thermal coal for international markets.

The deposit holds 190 million tonnes of thermal coal, and the mine has an expected life of 17 years.

Rio Tinto Coal Australia manages the operation on behalf of the joint venture partners, Rio Tinto Coal Australia's joint venture partners in the open cut mine are Mitsubishi Development Pty Ltd (31.4 per cent), J-Power Australia Pty. Ltd. (15 per cent) and J.C.D. Australia Pty. Ltd. (3.5 per cent).
